Getting Started with the Google Reviews Widget

Overview

The TWDH Google Reviews Widget lets you pull live reviews from any Google Business profile and display them beautifully on your WordPress site โ€” no third-party review platform required.

Prerequisites

  • WordPress 5.8 or later
  • PHP 7.4 or later
  • A Google Places API key with the Places API enabled
  • Your Google Place ID (find it at Google's Place ID finder)

Installation

  1. Download the plugin ZIP from the plugin detail page.
  2. In your WordPress admin go to Plugins โ†’ Add New โ†’ Upload Plugin.
  3. Upload the ZIP and click Install Now, then Activate.

Configuration

  1. Navigate to Settings โ†’ Google Reviews Widget in your WordPress admin.
  2. Paste your Google Places API Key.
  3. Enter your Place ID (e.g., ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4).
  4. Choose a layout (grid or list) and set the minimum star rating to display.
  5. Click Save Settings. Reviews are cached for 24 hours to stay within API quota.

Adding Reviews to a Page

Use the shortcode [twdh_reviews] in any page, post, or widget area. See the Shortcode Reference article for all available parameters.
